Are you looking to adapt your early Pontiac V8 to a Small Block Chevy style Transmission for overdrive or ease of finding new parts? Replacing our PO101 kit, our revamped WPO101 kit adapts your engine utilizing our WilCap styled adapter plate, crankshaft adapter and Chevy 168 tooth flexplate, and high torque mini starter. Some notes on the kit:
* This kit is made to work with 1955-1960 Pontiac V8 engines including the 287(1955), 317(1956), 347(1957), 370(1958), 389(1959-60 ONLY) These engines have a "Box" shaped lower engine block pattern and will have a 2.59 inch crank register diameter. Your engine block mounting face should resemble the picture provided in the kit pictures. PLEASE measure your crankshaft register if possible before ordering! There are manufacturing differences in the later model years, and we want to make sure you get the correct kit! 1961-1962 and some 1963 389's will have a different block pattern but the same 2.59" crankshaft register as the earlier 389's.
*Some Pontiac V8 engines were put into GMC trucks in the late 1950's. Please contact Speed Gems if you are looking to use this kit in that application.
*From 1955-1958 some engines only had a front engine mount, and the rear mounts were integrated into the transmission "ears". This plate gives you two different options to fabricate rear engine mounts for your engine.
*Some late 1996 4l60e transmissions with a removable bellhousing will require notching to clear the starter. Any 4l60e with the one piece bellhousing will require no modification. This kit is not currently able to work with the "LS" style transmissions, it must be used with a Small block Chevy style transmission.
*This kit can be utilized with the BOPC transmissions as well. Some bolt holes line up between the BOPC pattern and the old Pontiac pattern. To use this, carefully drill out the top two bellhousing bolt holes on your transmission from clearance on a 3/8" bolt (roughly 0.435" on most bellhousings) to a 7/16 clearance hole (29/64 drill bit, 0.453"). For bolts that travel through the bellhousing, adapter, and into the engine, longer 7/16-14 hardware will be required and is not provided.
